The Department of Forest Products Utilization and Wildlife Sciences (FPU and WLS) was established alongside the inception of the College of Forestry in the academic year 2017-18. The postgraduate program, M.Sc. (Forestry) in Forest Products Utilization, was introduced in the academic year 2022-23. The department is actively engaged in teaching, research, and extension activities, aligning with the mandate of the university.
In the field of teaching, the department offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs covering subjects such as Forest Products, Wood Science and Technology, Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs), Forest Certification, and Wildlife Sciences. Research activities encompass various funded and non-funded projects, including those carried out by undergraduate and postgraduate scholars. Wildlife Sciences, research is cantered on human-wildlife conflict mitigation, addressing a pressing challenge in contemporary agricultural landscapes. Extension efforts also include exposure visits and short-term training programs for farmers, local communities, and SHGs within the Bundelkhand region. The department’s extension activities focus on conducting training programs for farmers and Self-Help Groups (SHGs), emphasizing the manufacturing and value addition of forest products.
The Department of FPU and WLS plays a crucial role in promoting the sustainable use and conservation of forest resources. These resources are increasingly recognized for their ecological and economic significance at national and international levels. The department is dedicated to the assessment, evaluation, and sustainable management of forest products, contributing to global conservation efforts alongside the traditional focus on timber and other forest-based resources.
Vision
To emerge as a global centre of excellence in teaching, research and extension in agriculture and allied sciences in the country to ensure sustained healthy food, nutrition and livelihood security.
Mission
The university is committed to the cause of Indian agriculture through its quality teaching, demand-driven and location-specific research and extension programmes in the light of dynamism of socio-economic and agro ecological conditions, management perceptions, international trade scenarios and government policies.
