Prof. S. V. Dwivedi
Dean, College of Horticulture
The economy of Bundelkhand is largely dependent on agriculture and animal husbandry, owing to its predominant rural population. Under such conditions, horticultural crops have shown the inherent advantage of providing higher productivity per unit area of land as compared to other crops, resulting in higher income and employment generation in rural areas. Horticulture also ensures nutritional security and can also help farmers increase their income.
With the world’s population continuing to increase and climate change impacting upon production, it is vital to continue to investigate new growing systems and to establish new crops which can be grown sustainably and transported to market with minimal losses which creates enormous demand of horticulturists and spread of the horticultural education.
The College of Horticulture is dedicated to offering high quality education and has gone to considerable lengths to achieve educational excellence. The college’s academic offerings give students an opportunity to work on the farm to explore the practical knowledge, bringing farmers experiences to the classroom and resolving challenges through student farmer collaboration and thus making them ready for the future challenges. The basic mandate of the college is to develop appropriate human resource for carrying out various horticultural activities in the state and to develop relevant technologies suitable for horticultural activities for the welfare of farming community of Bundelkhand region of the state and to disseminate horticultural technologies, sustainable development of horticulture among the various stakeholders. The college has been established with perspective to impart education in different branches of horticulture and to further the advancement of learning by undertaking research in horticulture and allied activities. I sincerely hope that the education imparted in this college will help in building secure, sustainable and quality future of the state, country and the world through its well trained graduates and postgraduates.I extend a warm and affectionate welcome to all the students who aspire to be a part of the intellectual fraternity at College of Horticulture.
