The Department of Livestock Production and Management (LPM) at the College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Banda University of Agriculture & Technology (BUAT), Banda has been established to serve as a cornerstone for veterinary education, in alignment with the academic vision of the University. The Department is structured to undertake theoretical instruction and practical training for undergraduate students in strict conformity with the Minimum Standards of Veterinary Education (MSVE) prescribed by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI).The department focuses on the efficient, sustainable, and welfare-oriented management of farm animals to enhance productivity, profitability and environmental sustainability. The emphasis is given to scientific housing, balanced feeding, breeding management, health care, waste management, precision farming, and climate-resilient livestock practices.The Department contributes significantly to strengthening the livestock and dairy sector of Bundelkhand region by promoting sustainable livestock production systems, scientific management practices, and entrepreneurship development.
Mandate
To impart quality teaching at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level on the different courses of Livestock Production and Management in accordance with the Minimum Standards of Veterinary Education (MSVE) prescribed by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI). The Department is committed toconduct need-based research, and provide extension services in livestock production and management for the sustainable livestock practices to ensuring food security, rural livelihoodsand employment generation.
Mission
The Department is dedicated to provide high-quality education and practical training in livestock Production and Management to produce competent professionals and entrepreneurs. It aims to undertake innovative, interdisciplinary, and problem-oriented research addressing emerging challenges in livestock farming, particularly in Bundelkhand agroclimatic conditions. Moreover, it also strengthens extension services for effective transfer of technologies to farmers and stakeholders.

To be a leading center of excellence in livestock production and management by developing skilled professionals, through quality education, innovative teaching skills and promoting sustainable, climate-resilient, and profitable livestock systems for national development.
Objectives
- To provide quality teaching to the veterinary graduates by the dazzling faculty of the department in alignment with MSVE–VCI standards.
- Development of state-of-art livestock management facilities and infrastructure for potential dairy animals and poultry.
- To carry out research in collaboration with different divisions, in the upstream areas of livestock production and management particularly in Bundelkhand region.
- To strengthen farmer-centric extension, advisory, and capacity-building programs.
To encourage innovation, entrepreneurship, and start-ups in the livestock sector.
CO1: Understand Livestock Production Systems
Explain principles of livestock production, breeding, feeding, housing, and management of different farm animals (cattle, buffalo, sheep, goat, poultry, etc.).
CO2: Apply Scientific Feeding & Nutrition Practices
Formulate balanced rations and manage feeding strategies for improved productivity and health.
CO3:Implement Breeding & Reproductive Management
Apply breeding methods, heat detection, artificial insemination basics, and reproductive management techniques.
CO4:Manage Livestock Health & Welfare
Identify common diseases, adopt preventive healthcare practices, vaccination schedules, and ensure animal welfare standards.
CO5:Develop Housing & Farm Infrastructure Plans
Design suitable housing systems and maintain sanitation and biosecurity measures.
CO6:Apply Sustainable & Climate-Resilient Practices
Implement eco-friendly livestock production methods for sustainability and climate adaptability.
CO7:Utilize Modern Technologies in Livestock Farming
Use ICT tools, precision livestock farming techniques, and record-keeping systems.
CO8:Demonstrate Farm Management & Entrepreneurship Skills
Prepare project reports, manage farm economics, marketing strategies, and promote livestock-based enterprises.

Analyse production data and interpret performance indicators for decision-making.
