Directorate of Research
“Exploration for Solution”
The Directorate of Research in Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda came in to existence in 2016 with a basic objective of planning, coordination, execution and monitoring the research programmes in the University targeting agro-climatic and socio-economic challenges of Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh. The agriculture of Bundelkhand region suffers a number agro-climatic challenges like erratic and undependable rainfall, undulated topography, unfavourable physico-chemical properties of soil and extremely high atmospheric temperature. At the same time, some socio-economic constraints like insufficient irrigation infrastructures, predominance of small and marginal farmers, lack of quality agricultural inputs and technological awareness among the farming community adversely affect the production and productivity. These problems inclusively lead to rainfed and dryland agricultural practices, predominance of monocropping and extensive kharif fallows. To mitigate these problems, the University has prioritized four broad research areas namely, dryland agriculture, organic & natural farming, forestry, environment & climate change and food technology innovations. Research collaborations have been established with a number of national and international institutes working with similar mandates for speeding up the research programmes. Through various infrastructural projects funded under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana many research facilities like well-mechanized research farms, laboratories with new generation instruments, hi-tech nursery, protected cultivation & precision farming facility, integrated farming system, agroforestry models, fruit orchards, phenotyping facility, rain shadow structure etc. have developed. The technology development programmes on climate resilient cereals, millets, oilseeds & pulses, horticultural crops, agroforestry, natural resource management, indigenous animal breed upgradation, social and basic sciences are in the progress through students’ research, AICRPs and ad hoc projects from government and non-government organizations. The University also ensures large quantity of quality seed production of its own varieties as well as improved varieties of other prestigious institutes.
